Things You May Not Know About Me

This is my life right now, and only a tiny piece of it. I am excited to move into a new house.. But the process of actually moving to that house, is definitely not at the top of my favorite things to do list. However, it must be done, so that's where my mind is right now. I thought it would be fun to do a little get to know me post so here it goes :)

15 Things You Probably Don't Know About Me
1. I have a weird obsession with office supplies. Whenever I get any new kind of office/art supplies, I always take them out of the package and try everything out. Especially if it's new markers :)
2. I'm an organized messy person.  My room is messy, but things like my closet are color coordinated.  My school binders are extremely organized. I don't know why there's a disconnect there, but there is.
3. I still like to color. Yep, like in a coloring book.  I don't as much as I used to, but there's something kind of relaxing about it.
4. I'm addicted to Diet Coke. It's something I'm trying to work on.
5. I'm a very patient person, but not when it comes to waiting in line. Especially if there are 10 people in line, one register open, and all the employees are just standing around. I usually just put my stuff down and leave.
6. I really don't like eating outside. I hate bugs. And I like to eat my food, and drink my beverage without worrying about whether or not a bug has been all over it.
7. I'm a very picky eater. I eat my burgers plain, just cheese, meat, and bun. My pizza? Just cheese. Teriyaki sauce and marinara sauce: the only sauces/dressings I like. I don't eat Pork, or Seafood.
8. I am very terrified of fish. Yep, fish. Probably why I don't eat them. They just creep me out. It's definitely a contributing factor to my fear of large bodies of water.
9. Licorice is my all time favorite candy. It's just delicious :)
10. I wake up between 5:30 and 6 every morning. Not by choice, I might add. My body just has a natural alarm I guess. And going to sleep later doesn't help either. I could fall asleep at 3 am and still wake up at 6. And yes, it's extremely annoying.
11. You can always tell how busy I am based on my nails. I always re-paint them as soon as there's a chip, unless I'm really busy. OCD? Maybe a little.
12. I used to play volleyball when I was younger, and never used my knee pads. They were uncomfortable, and slowed me down. But my knees didn't exactly enjoy my choice.
13. I wear glasses. Well, I should wear glasses. I have to at night, the lights don't like me. I should wear them all the time though. I think my eyesight is getting worse, so I'm trying to wear them more. I am forgetful in that department.
14. I can't draw/sketch to save my life. I am lucky I have the Husband.
15. I've never broken a bone, *knock on wood*, so I'm probably due for one. This is why I'm pretty careful about certain things I do. I'm not exactly a huge risk taker.

Where's The Respect?

A couple weeks ago my Dad and I went to lunch at In N Out, and as pretty typically, it was packed. We were getting our order to go, but while we waited I did what I normally do: People watch. And as I saw an elderly couple wait for a table, I watched a couple, who couldn't have been much older than me, just jump at a table that became free and sit down.
Now maybe you don't find anything wrong with this, but I did. And it really made me think about people my age and our lack of respect for those around us sometimes. As young able bodied people, I don't believe in taking seats from the elderly, or a mom alone with her children. It is so much easier for the Husband and I to go sit in our car and eat if a place is crowded, than a couple in their 70s or a mom with her kids. I don't believe generations before us would take too kindly to taking seats from people who need them more than we do. But now, I'm afraid this is becoming the norm. Before I would give up my seat, after seeing that however, I decided to take it a step further to make sure I'm doing the right thing.
Today, I got my chance. At, coincidently, In N Out. As Dad and I were finishing up eating, I noticed a group of 4 elderly folks scanning for a table, so I got up and told them we were finished and they could have our table if they'd like. Now maybe some people might think its bratty to "pick" who I gave the table to, I however like to think I was doing a good thing.
The heat in Arizona is hard on all of us, especially for those over 70, and there's no way I was going to play a part in making them go outside. So I did something about it. And I will continue to. Maybe I care too much, maybe it isn't worth it, and maybe some don't appreciate it. But the thanks I got from the lady I talked to today, made it well worth the tiny bit of effort.

Got My Degree!

Yep, yesterday I received my Associates Degree for general education in the mail!  I earned this degree with a 3.8 GPA, and it was not easy. And I got married in the middle of one of the semesters. I am really proud of myself for getting through it! I couldn't have done it without the Husband though. He was a lot of help, with homework, and just supporting me. So thanks Husband, I love you :)

I hope everyone is having a great week! It's almost the weekend, which is always good, right? :)

Me, Myself, & I!

1. What is your biggest phobia?
Jeez, where do I start? I'm terrified of bugs and spiders. But other than that, my biggest fear is definitely the ocean. (Read more on that at the bottom of this post) Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the ocean, being in a boat/ship doesn't bother me at all, and I do believe in saving it, but I don't like to go in it.

2. If you could relive any day of your life, what would it be and why?
I would have to say our wedding day. I love my hubbs :)

3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?
I don't know if I could be the same age forever, I think every year is something special. I might like to skip a few right now.. But one day I'll look back and be thankful for these years, so I'll keep them!

4. Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?
I don't really get mistaken for anyone... Sorry to disappoint!  But, if you'd like to know where my name came from, it's from the movie Point Break. There's a lady surfer named Tyler, and that's what inspired my parents! And yes I still get weird looks from people, but I love my name!

5. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
Little Moments - Brad Paisley
When I Look At You - Miley Cyrus
Teenage Dream - Katy Perry

What can I say, I'm in Love :)

Mason Jar To Go Cups!

I've been seeing a few of these around Pinterest and have been wanting to try it for awhile now. This weekend I finally got my chance! Most of the tutorials I found used a drill, which is great, but power tools and I don't really get along, and we don't even own a drill. Then I stumbled upon this one from New Green Mama. She uses her crop-a-dile (which I already own) instead of a drill! Obviously she is a genius, because I never would've thought of that myself!
My first step was to order these paper straws that have been showing up EVERYWHERE, which I totally understand because they are awesome! I ordered mine from Sweets Treats Boutique on Etsy. She has all different colors, and even polka dots! It's $3.75 for a pack of 25, and shipping is $3.00, but if you order more than one, shipping on each additional item is only 50 cents, so I ordered two packs :) She will also email you a PDF of Straw Flags with any purchase. It was definitely worth it to me!

These to go cups are a lot easier than I thought they would be! And if you have a drill and would rather use that, this tutorial is the one I started with. All you need are mason jars, and grommets. As many as you want to make. I'm really excited about these, and will be making more! Let me know if you give it a shot! :)

My Last Name Decision

When the Husband and I got married, I kept my last name. Before we even got engaged, I made it pretty clear I wasn't changing my last name. It took him some time to come around to it, but once my mind is made up about something, it usually doesn't change.

I've read a few articles/blog posts about women who did the same thing.
Most were very long, and all about feminism. About how the tradition of taking a man's last name comes from men treating women like property, and men wanted people know they "owned" that woman.
I understand where those people are coming from, kind of. Maybe that's how it was back then, but I'd like to think that we've moved forward as a society since then. I don't think we should make other women feel like they're conforming to old forms of sexism when they take their husband's last name. I don't think a woman should feel bad for taking that last name.  There's nothing wrong with taking the love of your life's name. There's also nothing wrong with not doing that. To me "feminism" is about choices, it's about being able to choose what's best for you.  And I chose to keep my last name. For much simpler reasons.
I wanted my last name. When I decided to keep my last name, the last name was ending with me. Now, however, I do have an adorable nephew :) But like I said, once my mind is made up, it's made up. I'm not really a traditional person, I mean my wedding ring stone is amethyst, not a diamond. I like my last name, and it really is a part of who I am, so I kept it. With that said however, I do not get offended when someone addresses me as Mrs. Ross, not at all. Some of the posts I've read complain about it, it doesn't bother me.  Because really, I am Mrs. Ross, and Mr. Ross is my husband. Even if legally, my last name is still, my last name. Socially, I hyphenate my name, but I'm really easy going with whatever people call me. I like to pick my battles in life, and this isn't one that's worth it to me. I feel like to keep or not to keep the last name has turned into a big debate with some people, and I don't think it should be. I think every woman should do what she wants, and love their decision. To each their own right?

Gilmore Girls

Theme: Gilmore Girls
For my birthday this year, the Husband got me the complete series of Gilmore Girls.
Yes, I am a very lucky girl :) So while finishing up my last week of homework for my summer class, that's what I've been watching. So I thought it was a fitting theme for this week!

{All images from here}

I could go on and on.. 7 whole seasons. I love this show so much, it never gets old! Hopefully when The Husband's little sister gets a little bit older, I can introduce her to this show :) It will always be one of my top favorite shows, and maybe I'll even force my kids to watch it, even though they'll be boys... But even guys like this show because it's just awesome! :)

What are your top favorite shows? Does Gilmore Girls make your list?
I hope everyone is having a great week!

Sometimes It's the Little Things.

Yesterday, my Dad, The Husband and I headed North of Phoenix to Flagstaff.
It was so nice to be at a higher elevation without triple digit temperatures.
We had a lot of fun just hanging out, and I took a lot of pictures.
I won't bore you with all of them, but I thought I'd share a couple!
Dad needed a little bit of a nap, so we decided to stop at the beginning of this trail and explore a little.
I think I'm pretty funny:

The Husband only has a few things on his bucket list, so when we got the opportunity to cross off one of his items, we had to jump on it!
With that, he did one of the cheesiest things life has to offer:

Yep, we went there.
And I have to say, I'm glad we did it.
We plan on going back every year to see our tree ;)

Husband, you're a total cheese ball, but I love it :)

Have you ever carved your initials into a tree?
I think everyone should at least once, because sometimes, we all need to be a little cheesy!

Katy Perry: Part of Me!

Last night The Husband and I went to see the new Katy Perry movie! It's released everywhere on July 5, you should definitely go check it out!

I wouldn't call myself the biggest Katy Perry fan in the world. I really like her music, I like to see her perform. But honestly, I really really love her as a person. She's just such a beautiful person, and so full of life. And you really see it in this movie. I don't want to give too much away, but it really takes you inside her life. You will LOVE her Grandma, she's one of the best parts of the movie!
You will laugh, a lot, and you will cry. Well, maybe you won't, but I sure did.  And I knew I would, because seeing her fall apart wasn't easy. I loved her and Russel together, they were just so cute! And I was heartbroken when they got divorced, but they handled it so well. Their divorce was the classiest split Hollywood's seen in awhile. One of the nice things about the movie though, was they didn't dwell on their break up. It gives you a glimpse inside, but it doesn't focus the entire movie on it.

The Husband ended up liking it more than he thought it would, it was filmed really well. It was edited so her songs were matching up with what was being shown on the documentary side. I really loved it! And probably love her more than I did before!

As part of the Fan Sneaks promotion, we got posters, special 3-D glasses, and glow sticks!

Let me know if you go see it on the 5th! It was a lot of fun, you'll love it! :)

Wonderful Weekends: 06/30-07/01

We FINALLY got some new tennis shoes this week. We've been wanting them for awhile, and we finally had some extra money and got some! They are so comfortable, and we love them! Saturday, we went to play tennis to break them in. Neither of us had played in forever so it was an adventure!

After tennis, we went and got Jamba Juice for breakfast. Yummy!

Sunday we got up early again and went to play some more tennis!

We actually had some cloud cover for awhile.. When it's 90 degrees out at 7am, clouds help!
